Tcsh also initializes the environment variable HOSTTYPE to a symbolic name for the type of computer that it is running on.
Tcsh is an enhanced version of the Berkeley UNIX C shell csh(1).
The tcsh support for NLS differs depending on whether it was compiled to use the system's NLS (again, see the version variable) or not.

Unfortunately (t)csh doesn't have the concept of "short-circuiting", so the following code doesn't work.
This is only for Windows users or the users whose login shell is not tcsh.
To install these fonts, just download all three files and uncompress them using gzip, and copy these files to windows fonts folder.

It's handy for setting the environment once but since it is read after.cshrc you can not use its variables in aliases etc. I now detect a login (or rsh job) by the fact that the environment (actually just the environment variable ENVSET) is not set.

A possible usage of cwdcmd is the capability of changing the title bar and the icon name of a terminal running X according to the current directory path.
The search syntax in bound to metacharacter and to editing style, either emacs or vi.

 Special shell variables
In tcsh, completion is always used and this variable is ignored.
If set to the empty string or `0' and the input device is a terminal, the end-of-file command (usually generated by the user by typing `^D' on an empty line) causes the shell to print `Use "exit" to leave tcsh.' instead of exiting.
It contains the shell's version number (see tcsh), origin, release date, vendor, operating system and machine (see VENDOR, OSTYPE and MACHTYPE) and a comma-separated list of options which were set at compile time.

My best conjecture about what went wrong is this: First I set the root shell to "tcsh" with no leading path components.
But since then, it has been going okay.
And that's when I panicked, because I thought that that should have worked.

But I doubt tcsh is removed, just not default so those of use who avoid sh type shells for real work can set it up for our logins.
tcsh was his shell, he left apple, so the BSD group changed it cause they didn't like tcsh.

In tcsh, `which' and its cousin `where' are builtins.
It's not a good idea to put this command into ~/.cshrc, because every csh you run without the `-f' option, even ones started to run csh scripts, reads that file.
The basic idea is to add a command to your login shell's startup file to replace your login shell with bash.
