Video games most often use real-time computer graphics (rarely referred to as CGI), but may also include pre-rendered "cut scenes" and intro movies that would be typical CGI applications.
2D CGI was first used in movies in 1973's Westworld, though the first use of 3D imagery was in its sequel, Futureworld (1976), which featured a computer-generated hand and face created by then University of Utah graduate students Edwin Catmull and Fred Parke.

While each new series in Japan took place in a different altnernate universe, Saban used the same characters and timeline for each season of the American adaption up until Lost Galaxy, while introducing various new characters throughout the show.
While the CGI for this movie may seem outdated and cheesy compared to the movies of today, they were quite good for the time of this movie's release, and lightyears ahead of the special effects of the TV show.

When I think of Michael Crichton I think of an old article by Budd Schulberg, I think, called "Why Write It If You Can't Sell It to the Movies?" A new Michael Crichton adventure, even though it is in book form, is always a film in the making.
I guess the films I am most tempted to see are TIMELINE, MASTER AND COMMANDER, and THE RETURN OF THE KING.
It should not be hard to have the greatest number of fighters since the vast majority of those fighting are CGI.
