TrueSpace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
trueSpace is a 3D computer graphics and animation software developed by Caligari Corporation, originally created for the Amiga Computer, and later for the Windows platform.
The software's native formats are basically two: one for standalone objects (with the file extension.cob), and another for the scenes (with the file extension.scn).
The software can be used for modelling, animating and rendering (using the Lightworks rendering engine), and basic post-processing.

 TrueSpace 2
In TrueSpace there is no need to modify an object 'mathematically' by entering values in a dialog box (though it does permit you to do this).
Each object can be separately animated, deformed, moved, rotated and scaled and then choreographed to act with other objects, thus creating complex animations with a few simple clicks of the mouse.
The creation of objects in many 3D packages is limited to polygons which are extruded or swept into the third dimension (which TrueSpace also allows).

 Caligari Truespace 6 - vnunet.com
Truespace is popular for designing 3D characters for use in games and multimedia, and it's now possible to create complex symmetrical objects, such as a person's face, in half the time by using the Mirrored modelling tools and just concentrating on one side.
Truespace was the first desktop 3D package to successfully offer real-time editing in part-rendered shaded mode (as opposed to mere wireframes).
Just don't expect Truespace 6 to be a friendly program for beginners or a high-end speed demon, because it's neither.

I have probably made trueSpace sound worse than it is. In fact it has improved quite a bit in version 5 but I upgraded to that version and tried it briefly and even with the newer features I keep finding limitations to their use that other programs do not have.
This is what has finally convinced a lot of trueSpace users over the years to move to other applications.
While I spent well over a year regularly reading and contributing to TSML I found it to be one of the greatest learning experiences I have ever had in computer graphics.

Figure 3.1 trueSpace has an unconventional user interface.
And like the teapot program in Chapter 2, you are free to zoom, rotate, and move the viewpoint (note that in trueSpace, the viewpoint is referred to as an eye).
The final result is an object that you can load into your Direct3D application and manipulate at a high level without having to know that the object you see in your display is really just a collection of triangles with different colors.

This is not meant to be a tutorial on how to use trueSpace 4 specifically, but rather, an overview as to why this often under-rated piece of software makes such a great game development tool.
For most, trueSpace includes all of the features needed, including the ability to create single sided triangulated meshes, interior and exterior type level geometry, objects, characters, animations, texture mapping, excellent file exporting features, and plug-in extensions – to name a few.
Therefore, be forewarned that some of the features discussed here are not available in earlier version of trueSpace.

In contrast to Carrara Studio, which uses the metaphor of rooms to create and manipulate objects, TrueSpace allows the space to remain open and free.
The only true downside with TrueSpace 6.5 is the lack of a Mac version.

While TrueSpace also comes with a somewhat limited library of material properties (for example, textures simulating glass, metal, granite and so on) that can be applied directly to objects, the library is flexible and permits the addition of user defined materials.
They can be told to look at other objects, even if those objects are themselves animated and moving around.
Every object in TrueSpace can be shaded with different material properties such as texture maps, colors, transparency, reflectivity, bumpiness, roughness, ambient glow,
